A few Favorite Books on my Reading List

I’ve loved reading ever since I was little, but it gets harder and harder to carve out time to cozy up with a busy schedule. A stack of books that I’m excited about seems like the perfect motivator, especially since reading more is one of my 2018 goals. I plan to follow the advice I’ve read and keep books handy. I have a few on my Kindle app, one in my bag, and the rest at home.

I thought I’d share a few of my favorite books on my current reading list with you. Let me know if you’ve read them, and please pass on any others you’d recommend. I’m always adding!

At Home // I’m a few chapters in and this has been such a fun book to read. If you’re a details person, you will adore it. Author Bill Bryson goes through the history of the house, taking you back in time room-by-room to share how it evolved to what “home” is today. It’s a great read, and I’m finding that it’s an easy one to pick back up if you veer off into other books since almost every chapter takes on a different room.

Treating People Well: The Extraordinary Power of Civility at Work and in Life // I can’t wait to get into this book, written by two former White House Social Secretaries (one under George and Laura Bush and the other under Michelle and Barack Obama). This book is also brand-new – published January 9, 2018. Our local Junior League chapter is hosting the authors, and since I have to miss meeting them in-person, I feel like this is the next best thing.

Katharine Graham’s Washington // Katharine Graham’s memoir, Personal History, is a book that I’ve loved reading. It’s been in my Kindle app as my airplane reading for a few months now, and I always love picking it back up (it’s a bit longer). When I discovered this collection of articles and writings that she pulled together about her beloved city, Washington, D.C., I had to pick it up. In case y’all are wondering, yes, The Post is on my list to see!

Present Over Perfect // One of the things I’m so thankful for from 2017 is finding an amazing group of women to start a Bible Study with. This book by Shauna Niequist is the next one we’re reading and I’m excited to dive into it!

The Blue Book of Stationery // This is the fabulous book I referenced so much in my post on picking out your stationery wardrobe. Crane & Co.’s book is a terrific guide to finding the most appropriate stationery for every occasion and how to communicate appropriately no matter what the occasion. Fun fact: this book is also handed out to students of the Protocol School of Washington.

Presence // Amy Cuddy’s TED Talk on the power of body language a few years ago was an instant hit, so it’s no surprise that her book has received equal acclaim. I’ve seen it on so many book lists that I thought it’s about time to try it out myself. I’m really looking forward to the advice and tips in this one!

Happy reading, y’all!
