What to Pack for a Sunny Vacation

It’s Memorial Day weekend, friends! I don’t know about y’all, but I am so excited for a little rest and relaxation. Truthfully, we’ll be doing a lot of things around the house since this will be our first weekend in town in ages.

Since I’m sure a lot of y’all are getting ready to jet off to some fabulous destination for the weekend, I thought I’d share a few tips I gathered from packing for our trip to Florida earlier this month.

We always pack in a carry-on, so I try to focus on bringing pieces that can pull double duty. I’m sharing a few of those with y’all today!

The Outfits

Everything I packed could be mixed and matched effortlessly. It’s my favorite way to travel especially since, 1) we pack in suitcases we can carry on when we travel by plane (i.e. we don’t “check” our luggage), 2) it makes getting ready a breeze, and, 3) if you don’t feel like wearing a top one day, you can switch it out easily for another and still have an outfit that feels planned out and pulled together.

Emerson Fry is one of my favorite brands for easy summer tops. The one above is an old one I bought a year or two ago from Tuckernuck. The heather camel sweater-blazer is one of my latest obsessions. I found my tortoise clutch in Charleston, but it looks like there’s a similar one at Nordstrom. I went up a size in these white J.Crew capris and love them so far, though they don’t hold their shape past a wearing or two. My tortoise hoops are here.

My favorite dark high-rise skinny jeans.
Another Emerson Fry top, same J.Crew capris, and a blush pink sweater-blazer (also J.Crew).

My beaded earrings are old J.Crew, but I love these from BaubleBar (and they’re under $40.00).

You can always count on stripes – especially when they’re navy and white. Above is one of Sail to Sable’s tunic dresses. I sized up to a small, but it’s actually a bit on the larger side. I’d recommend going with a size XS if you’re around a size 4 normally.

My swimsuit is the Anne Marie style by Solid & Striped (similar one here). It also traveled with me to France last month. You can find my packing list for France in the spring here.

The Pieces

I kept my footwear oh so simple for this trip: a pair of sandals for by the pool and out and about the resort, a pair of block heel mules (purchased at Tuckernuck last year), and Loeffler Randall wedges for the evenings.

Here are some similar Ferragamo’s on sale for under $300 during Net-a-Porter’s Memorial Day Sale – and I am obsessed with these at Bloomie’s.

I love the Lilly Pulitzer Murfee Scarf for beach travel. It’s super light and works as a pareo at the pool or a shawl in the evening.

Happy travels, friends!
