Decking out our Main Floor for Autumn

I waited as long as I could – a whole two weeks into September, I know. While it’s a little early to put up Halloween decor, it seems like a perfectly acceptable time to bring out a few pumpkins.

I’m definitely “less is more” when it comes to seasonal decorating – except for the holidays, of course. A little touch here and there keeps your home festive without looking like the seasonal aisle in your nearest HomeGoods.

I love decorating with warm oranges, soft off-whites, and golds for the fall. I make sure and pick up Williams Sonoma dish towels in an array of colors to change out with the seasons (red for winter, orange for fall, etc.). We have more than I know what to do with at this point, but they’re the perfect little touch to bring a kitchen into a new season (the orange ones we have are here, here, here, and here – told you we had a lot!). The fox and leaves print is a very old Paper Source set that I got ages ago when I had my first studio apartment.

Since our kitchen is smaller (hello, townhouse), we’re tight on space for serving ware, so I mixed a few of my pumpkin tureens and cocottes into our built-ins and bookcases to spread the seasonal feels. It’s a great solution for smaller spaces.

Even our china cabinet was included with these fun salt and pepper shakers I picked up last year. I also used them in last year’s Friendsgiving post.

I sprinkled a few orange candles in Blue Willow bowls throughout our main floor, including on our sideboard, since I decorate primarily with blue and white. Blue and white is a wonderful backdrop for any holiday color palette, especially orange. It just so happens that the pillows I normally have in our living area are orange and navy – a perfect match!

If you missed it last week, hop over to this blog post to see how I made the simple and chic fall arrangements shown in the photos below. You’ll be surprised at how easy they were to put together.

Happy decorating!
