The Best Recipe for Your Snow Day

Happy snow-filled Tuesday, friends! This Carolina girl is beyond excited to have spent the last two days in a winter wonderland. Where I grew up, two inches of snow is a huge deal that literally shut our city down, so to get nearly nine inches of it this weekend was amazing. My Hubby who grew up where it snowed frequently didn’t quite share my enthusiasm…until I introduced him to one of my favorite childhood recipes.

We used to make “Snow Cream” with Mom whenever it snowed. Since that didn’t happen very often, it always felt like a special occasion.

If you’ve ever tried to make homemade ice cream, you know it is such a process. This recipe, on the other hand, is super simple.

Here’s what you need:

1/2 cup of milk

2 1/2 tbsp granulated sugar

1 pinch of salt

1/2 tsp of extract (you can use vanilla, almond, orange – be creative!)

4 cups of fresh, clean snow (be safe, of course. If this bothers you, you can substitute shaved ice or finely crushed ice)

Your favorite ice cream toppings (I prefer rainbow nonpareils)

Mix your milk, sugar, salt, and extract together in a mixing bowl. Then, add your snow scoop by scoop, stopping to adjust for taste. You may need more or less depending on how fluffy your snow is.

Finally, top with your favorite sprinkles and enjoy it fast! It doesn’t last long, so be prepared to eat it immediately!
