Celebrating our First Blog-iversary

We’re celebrating two things today on the blog: 1) the transition out of summer and into fall, and, 2) our first blog-iversary! It feels like just yesterday we were figuring this whole new world out (and, trust me, I still am). Thank you, thank you, thank you for reading, commenting, joining the conversation on social media, and for generally being wonderful. Magnolia Stripes wouldn’t be here without each of you and I couldn’t be more thankful. I love building and growing our community and I can’t wait to see what the next chapter brings!

Since we launched with a farewell to summer lemon-themed party, we thought it only fitting that we celebrate one year with an orange and green end of summer tabletop. I love a good crisp white tabletop and nothing takes me back to sipping a glass of Sauvignon Blanc on the patio this summer than a few good rattan pieces mixed in with white porcelain. I used rattan chargers I found from Target years ago that were $10 each (similar ones here). I find myself coming back to these chargers all the time.

I layered on our white Williams Sonoma dinner plates and salad plates with a little green and white pop from linen napkins on each place setting. The glasses are our cafe goblets from Pottery Barn. I loved the shape and cuts on them. A lettuce ware bowl topped with a few clementines set the perfect little chic and casual table.

I love how everything looks stacked and layered up. It’s a simple tabletop that you can easily repeat with different colors and different textures. You could substitute the greens for a nice blue and white or find an autumnal burnt orange and place mini pumpkins into white ramekins instead of the clementines in the lettuce ware bowls. The possibilities are endless.

The lettuce ware pieces in this blog post are HomeGoods finds. I buy them out whenever I see lettuce ware and Blue Willow pieces (some here) there. The original lettuce ware pieces by Dodie Thayer (here for Tory Burch) are nothing short of fantastic and beginning my collection is next on the list – along with my Juliska Country Estate, pieces from three Royal Crown Derby patterns, and the list goes on. Both C.Z. Guest and Jackie O collected Dodie Thayer’s pieces, so we’re all in good company here.

A good tip: if you’re collecting an entire set of dinnerware, begin with the serving pieces and salad plates. That way, if you have a good basic white base to work with, you can mix and match those new pieces until you complete your set. I do this all the time!

Our stainless steel flatware is Country French by Reed and Barton, a pattern I’ve talked about before that I just fell in love with – especially the salad forks.

I opted for no tablecloth in this tablescape to keep it informal and the mood a bit carefree. A lovely glass bottle of water in a lettuce ware bowl topped it all off. The orange label on the bottle coordinated perfectly with the orange clementines in each bowl, so I couldn’t help myself.

I hope you’ll join me in raising a glass to the end of summer (and all the adventures to come in the fall) with this easy and classic table spread!
